About
We The Living is a collage of narratives revealing the unseen lives of farmed and animals used in experiments. Through intimate visits to sanctuaries, conversations with groundbreaking animal-law lawyers, leaders in ethical food systems, and innovations from researchers creating humane alternatives, this feature documentary spotlights a growing movement for change. With everyday people at its heart, We The Living challenges audiences to rethink our relationship with the animals who share our world.
Director’s Note
Learning about the hidden lives of animals used for food and research opened my eyes to the horrors we (knowingly or unknowingly) cause them, but also to the deep empathy society has for animals. I walked away, and I trust audiences will to, with a sense of hope.
Our biggest challenge is that so much of what happens remains out of sight. We are deliberately made unaware and maneuvered towards choices shaped by industries whose priorities are only driven by profit.
“The guilt you feel is not your fault…” - Dan Rosenfeld
I set out across the country alone with my camera to question what I thought I knew, and hopefully grow together with you the viewer. ‘We the living’ aims to educate without preachiness, extreme opinions, or relentless scenes of violence, and instead inspire, inform, and constructively challenge.
In the end, kindness does exist within people. The love we share with non-human animals proves it every day. This film is for them, for us, and for our future.
